Performance and Fairness Analysis (using Jain’s Index) of AODV and DSDV based on ACO in MANETs

Abstract—Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are groups of mobile nodes which can be formed randomly and dynamically without network infrastructures beforehand. One of the challenges of research in MANETs is constant topology changes which make initially efficient network become inefficient. AODV routing protocol and DSDV have a flaw in their mobility network such as an increase in routing overhead. It causes frequent drop-link which makes the source node routing need to be built again from scratch. In the case of simultaneous data transmission, there will be an increase in the drop packet value and a decrease in throughput value. The contribution of this study includes 1) modifying the DSDV and AODV routing protocol to solve some weaknesses using the advantages of the characteristics of the Ant Colony Optimization, 2) making comparisons of performance and fairness on AODV and DSDV using Ant Colony Optimization. The results showed the modifications done to the conventional AODV routing protocol and DSDV by adding Antnet algorithm could produce better performance. The throughput value increased approximately 6.367% – 13.02% for AODV and 0.68% – 5.47% for DSDV. However, the modifications worsen the value of delay time by approximately 5.23% – 6.02% for AODV and 60.88-65.82% for DSDV. AODV routing protocol performance is still better than DSDV routing protocol despite of having Antnet algorithm added on both protocols. Similarly, the value of Fairness Index AODV is better than DSDV.
